Pyramide du Tacul and the Glacier du Géant, East Ridge, Mont Blanc massif

Trip report · Mont Blanc massif

Pyramide du Tacul, East Ridge

On 15 June 2026 we climbed the East Ridge of the Pyramide du Tacul (3,468 m), a slender satellite of the Mont Blanc du Tacul. Approachable climbing, never hard — perfect as a warm-up or to start out — on a very pointed summit, with a magnificent view. And a return not to be underestimated… but more on that later.

The Pyramide du Tacul, a slender satellite

The Pyramide du Tacul (3,468 m) is a satellite of the Mont Blanc du Tacul (4,248 m), in the heart of the Mont Blanc massif. A very fine, very pointed summit that stands out sharply above the Glacier du Géant. And up there, a magnificent view: the whole Vallée Blanche basin, the aiguilles, the massif in every direction.

The East Ridge, the perfect warm-up

The East Ridge offers approachable climbing, never hard: graded D-, with 5b at most, over about 300 metres of granite. It’s the perfect route to warm up before more ambitious ascents — or simply to start out on high-mountain terrain, in a superb setting.

Our climb, 15 June 2026

From the Aiguille du Midi

We set off from the Aiguille du Midi (3,777 m), then down and across the glacier to reach the foot of the ridge. Crampons on, down jacket away, and you drop into the mineral world of the Vallée Blanche.

On the ridge

The climbing is honest and playful. Nothing extreme, but everything you need to enjoy yourself: varied moves, clean rock, and that feeling of climbing at just the right level, never forcing. The kind of route that builds confidence.

Approachable, but still the real high mountains.

At the summit, 3,468 m

The summit is tiny and pointed — you can barely stand on it, and that’s exactly its charm. The view, on the other hand, is vast. You savour it, take photos, and laugh a little at feeling so high on so little ground.

At the summit, 3,468 m: the view is worth the trip.

The return: not to be underestimated

A word, precisely, about the return. You have to climb back up to the Aiguille du Midi — and at altitude, believe us, it’s a long way back up there! A quiet reminder that you’re at nearly 3,800 metres. You savour that final climb, telling yourself you’ve earned it.

The way back up to the Aiguille du Midi… it climbs, and it's long!
