The ascent of Mont-Blanc is a mountaineering route in altitude. In addition to a very good physical condition, you must be acclimatised to the altitude and used to walking with crampons in mixed terrain (rock + snow 🏔).
This 6-day program is for people with a good general physical condition but no experience in high mountains. You will need to learn the basic techniques of crampon climbing while acclimatising to the altitude.
Climbing Mont-Blanc over 3 days allows you to smooth out your effort and give yourself more flexibility if the weather conditions are changing. Be careful, this does not make the ascent any easier as it involves a long day to get from the Tête Rousse refuge to the summit.
Physically, Mont-Blanc is a very long run because you have to go up 🔝 AND down. All of our clients agree that it is much harder effort than a marathon and that you have to be extremely well prepared to have a chance to succeed and above all to have fun.
DAY 1 and 3: ASCENSION OF THE GRAN PARADISO IN ITALY, 4065m
Departure from Chamonix to the Chabot refuge in Italy. We leave for the ascent of a 4000m summit, technically easy but which will allow you to gauge yourself and to have a more precise idea of what the ascent of Mont-Blanc will represent.
Walking time: 2 to 3 hours to reach the mountain hut then 6 to 8 hours to reach the summit and descend.
Accommodation on Day 2: Half-board at the Chabot hut: included
DAY 3: REST DAY or ONE-DAY ALPINE ASCENT
This rest day is optional but often appreciated after 2 days in the high mountains.
Possibility to add a one-day alpine ascent ont this day. Ex : Cosmiques ridge (mixed route), Vallée Blanche traverse to the Skyway, …
Accommodation in Chamonix: not included
DAY 4 to 6: MONT-BLANC ASCENT
If the dates we propose do not correspond to your availability, contact us and we will check the possibility of accommodation at the Goûter mountain hut on your dates.
Day 4 : Les Houches – Tête Rousse hut
Departure in the afternoon from the Bellevue cable car in Les Houches to reach the Nid d’Aigle (2370m) with the Mont-Blanc tramway. Then it takes about 2h of walking on a good path to reach the Tête Rousse refuge at 3167m to spend the night.
Walking time: 2h – Elevation gain: +800m
Half-board accommodation at the Tête Rousse hut: included
Day 5 : Tête Rousse hut – Mont-Blanc summit – Goûter hut
Big day with an early start to reach the Goûter hut at 3835m. After a short break and having left the stuff not essential to reach the summit of Mont-Blanc, we will leave for 1000m of ascent to the summit.
Descent by the same route and night at the Goûter hut.
Walking time: 8 to 12 hours – Elevation gain: +1700m / -1000m
Half-board accommodation at the Goûter hut : included
Day 6 : Refuge du Goûter – Les Houches
Day of return to the valley. Departure relatively early to take advantage of the good conditions. Return to Les Houches mid-day / early afternoon.
Walking time : 3 to 5h – Elevation loss : -2300m
Important: the program and the itineraries are modifiable and adaptable at any time by the guide according to the weather and the mountain conditions.
We will not organize a group of people who do not know each other for this activity because this type of climbing is dependent on your physical fitness and, from our experience, we know that mixing people who do not know each other, before doing this activity, leads to frustration.
